Its not a fluke....

Future olympic athelete? I've never heard of a baby consistently rolling over this early...apparently not too many people have. It makes me a little afraid of how quickly he's going to get 'busy'. Anyway, enjoy the video :)

Tummy Time just got more complicated!

Last night at 6 weeks 4 days old Patrick rolled over for the first time. I was sure it was a fluke til he did it a few times today too. This makes his recommended 20 minutes/day of tummy time a lot more complicated! Guess we'll just hope he sits up solo quite soon to cure his ever flatter head.

Kids say the darndest things....

Me: Natalie, I am getting frustrated. If you don't stop my head is going to explode.
Nattie: And then there will be blood, and brains all over the wall!!!

I was laughing so hard over this it totally alleviated any ounce of frustration I was feeling.

Good News Today!

So, before I went on mat leave I got some news from my boss that my position was being reclassed organizationally. Basically, because of all the hard work I had done with the stimulus stuff and my expressed interest in getting away from the clerical side of my job I was being moved to the clinical side of the organization and would be focusing much more heavily on grants. The job was not changing as far as paygrade but that it was being positioned for supervisory status over an assistant as the organization grew and the grants work became too much for one person. this of course was very flattering but didn't really mean a hill of beans except that I was really glad all my hard work had been noticed.

Fast forward to this morning.... I show up at the office to show Patrick off and am talking to coworkers when a new face walks over (from my desk) and intro's herself to me. I assume they've hired a temp Kate. Nope, she's a new person doing an unrelated job. However, my seat has been moved into a private office. This serves two purposes....one, I'm movin' up in the world(!) and two, I have a private place where I can pump BM without having to leave my desk or use the EWWWWW bathroom. I am so over the moon right now. On the professional front I feel so glad that I'm being noticed and rewarded. On the personal front I am so INSANELY RELIEVED that if P does wind up needing to be EBF until he's 1 that I can take care of business from right at my desk!

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Bathing Beauty

Quick hello to Patrick inside his sun/bug tent.

Very pleased w/ the new pool!

Surprised by her own splash. How funny is that face?

The 4 phases of Patrick....

Calm - this one is pretty fleeting.
Hungry - about every 2 hours we see the tongue!

Grouchy - what happens after calm & hungry!

Really ticked - We're hoping to see a lot less of this one!

the First Smile Prize goes to...

Miss Natalie :)

On Friday night she was busy poking at Patrick and calling him Patty Cakes and generally being what I would consider a semi-dangerous nuisance. He looked up at her and suddenly his whole face broke into a huge grin. She said "Momma, he's smilin' at me" like she was mentioning that the sky was blue or that Jame was in the bathroom again and then went back to her semi-dangerous nuisance behavior. I got my first smile late Saturday afternoon and have had 2 or 3 since. Jame is still waiting.

What a beautiful thing those smiles are. I have to say the long, frustrating crying spells are a lot more tolerable when you know there is a flip side. And so much cuter than the furrowed brow, Mr. Serious expressions we are usually privy to.

Now, I just need to be ready with the camera and perhaps I'll catch one of those grins!

Belated 1 month well visit

Patrick's visit went fairly well. He measured 21 3/4" and now weighs 10lbs 12oz. This puts him in the 50% for height and the 75% for weight...for those of you who follow these things. I also got instructions on caring for a chubby baby. They get yeast in their fat folds. Who knew Patrick would come with a totally different set of instructions :) Instead of weight checks I get fat fold instructions. I do love those chubby thighs! I will have to take a thigh picture & post it!

On the downside....His pediatrician felt that if we wanted to try formula that we should use the alimentum (sp?) due to his gastric issues. And that I shouldn't add any foods back into my BRAT diet for at least another month. I wanted to sit and wail after both statements. First, the formula she suggested would cost us about $100+/week and second I am beyond bored eating bland food. So, I guess the plan is to wait another couple of weeks and see if he's gotten big enough to endure things like dairy and fiber. If all looks good we'll try him on regular formula just in case. If that goes well I'll exhale and thank my stars and continue to exclusively breast feed until I just don't want to anymore. If it doesn't go well I will take another one for the team and stay on the BRAT diet and continue to EBF with minimal supplementation until he's a year old. Option number two makes my toes curl.

On a happier note...watch out Justin Timberlake because I'm bringin' sexy back :) I've been walking and doing weight watchers and am confident that sooner or later I'll look pretty foxy again!

Eviction

I forgot....

Patrick spent the night in his own room last night. Of course he slept in the bouncy...lets not get crazy folks. No need for a baby monitor. You can hear him squeaking, snorting, grunting, squealing, puking, etc from down the hall.

You can stop chanting now Amy....

Relaxing w/ Dad - wait, is that a motorcycle magazine she's reading? yikes!
Maymont....ahhhhhh tranquil. You'd never know from this pic that there were about 40 three year old kids running rampant!

Natalie & Nina checking out the Bears...a big hit at Maymont.

tiny VA deer. And Miss "too cool" in glasses like Daddy's.

wait! Is that Patrick sleeping? No worries, it was short lived. And I may have this bouncy seat bronzed when the infant phase is over. At some point I may feel bad that he slept in it for 5 weeks and counting. But not yet :)
