Trying this again

I rarely take lunch these days and it's a bad habit and slippery slope.  So, I'm going to try to take at least 15 minutes every day - for sanity!  Today, since it's raining I'm going to toss a few pictures up and try to get back into the groove of blogging.  Here are some shots from early this month in the back yard.

Driving is very serious business!

The Hummingbird Moth - this thing showed up a few days ago and is having a love affair with my butterfly bush. I have to admit it had us pretty darn puzzled! Thank goodness for Google!

Bugs 1 - Organic Garden 0

Damnit Damnit Damnit!  I ripped my garden out early yesterday.  Again.  Last year I managed to let it get way out of control because I was a teensy bit busy with Patrick. This year the bugs beat me.  I don't have the heart to post a picture of the bare earth that is left so I will post pictures of the evil beasties that forced me to rip it out.
 

I am going to try tilling the soil nightly this week. Following the turning of of the earth I'll hose it down with a solution of 1 part castille soap, 1 part dawn and 2 parts water. If it looks improved next weekend I'm going to try some fall plantings of spinach, peas & broccoli. We'll see. I am so damn frustrated right now!

Some Serious Tomfoolery

The other night we had one of "those" nights.  The kind where you're having so much fun and everyone is behaving and everyone is getting along and everyone is writing on their faces with permanent marker.  Ooops, okay, maybe not everyone...  :)  I'm so glad I got the camera out for this and captured these pictures of the kids, individually and together.  I look at them and feel like this is one of those moments that exhibit exactly their age, the way they interact and how stunningly beautiful they are in all of their childish goofiness.

And a last few of the concert.  I think Patrick's finale here is priceless!  Perhaps we'll drag this one out to show his friends how much he loved concerts when he goes to his first as a teenager or something :)

It has been interesting to watch this

I really wish I'd started taking pictures sooner.  I walk past this building called A.D. Williams every day on my walking commute from my office to my car.  The initial work began to tear it down last fall when all of the underground "stuff" was removed, disrupted, etc and that is when we started having mice in our offices.  Anyway, the mice went away after we poisoned them (well, a nice transplant from Greece did the dirty work) and then once the weather warmed up this spring some of the air bridges that connected the Main Hospital to A.D. Williams started coming down.  And then you would see men up in the building taking out "stuff". And then one day this giant pincer thing arrived and all of a sudden the whole building was disappearing in chunks.  I am hoping to take a morning and evening picture from here on out until the building is gone.  Then I may take a daily shot when the new building construction starts. 

On a side note.  I think I might like to get into demolition.  Or at least have a license to drive one of those big "knockydown things" so that I could burn off some steam at the end of a tough day.

Pictures - long overdue

Natalie's preschool class had a concert with one of the infant classes back at the end of July.  It was very sweet - they made homemade moracca's, played drums, sang songs and performed a song written by the class and conducted by Natalie (who LOVED!! being the boss).  You'll see their hilarious title below.  It is sad but the concert was not enjoyed by everyone...and the naysayer was noisy in his dissent. 

Here are some of the pictures from that day.  Yeah, I know, a month overdue.  I'm going to try to be better about this in the coming days/weeks/months.  I miss my blog!

Heard Last Night

Last night I was driving home from my monthly shopping blow out at BJ's wholesale club when I heard this interview on the radio.  It struck me almost to the point where I forgot to breathe.  Roseanne Cash said some things that resonate with such wisdom and I pulled over to the side of the interstate to listen to her speak.  Maybe it's because I've spent the last few weeks trying to sort through some old baggage and painful times.  Maybe it's because I'm getting older and finally ready to listen when someone gives me some advice.  Maybe it's because when I heard the idea of borrowing from my future to enable me to handle the present it touched a nerve so deep that I didn't know I had done that for myself until someone put it into words for me. 

This has been a really emotional stretch for me and I have had a profound need to close in, hunker down and conserve my emotional stability.  I want to thank Roseanne Cash for giving me some much needed perspective.
